Pair of Sandals ca. 1580-1479 B.C. Second Intermediate Period-Early New Kingdom These sandals, along with a second, similar pair (22.3.20a, bwere found in the chamber of a pit tomb used ultimately for the burial of a 21st Dynasty (ca. 1100 B.C.) charioteer named Itamun (see 26.3.1a, b). They come, however, from an earlier burial that was pushed aside for the tomb's new occupant.The soles of the sandals are formed of tightly woven papyrus in narrow rows, with three outer bands defining the shape.
