CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - At Astrotech in Titusville, Fla., NASA's Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite, known as LCROSS, has been offloaded from the truck after its arrival from Northrop Grumman's facility in Redondo Beach, Calif. The satellite's primary mission is to search for water ice on the moon in a permanently shadowed crater near one of the lunar poles. LCROSS is a low-cost, accelerated-development, companion mission to NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO. At Kennedy, the two spacecraft will be integrated with an Atlas V launch vehicle and tested for final flight worthiness. LCROSS and LRO are the first missions in NASA's plan to return humans to the moon and begin establishing a lunar outpost by 2020.

SWOT Spacecraft Transport from Astrotech to SpaceX Facility. The Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) spacecraft is transported from Astrotech to the SpaceX facility at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on Nov. 21, 2022. SWOT is the first mission that will observe nearly all water on Earths surface, measuring the height of water in the planets lakes, rivers, reservoirs, and the ocean. The satellite is set to launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in December from Vandenbergs Space Launch Center-4 East. NASAs Launch Services Program, based at the agencys Kennedy Space Center in Florida, is managing the launch service.

SDO is the first space weather research network mission in NASA's Living With a Star Program. The Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (ICPS) for NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket has been moved on its transport stand by truck out of the United Launch Alliance (ULA) Horizontal Integration Facility near Space Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, on its way to the Delta Operations Center. The ICPS is the first integrated piece of flight hardware to arrive for the SLS. The GLAST will launch aboard a Delta II rocket May 16 from Launch Pad 17-B on Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. A powerful space observatory, the GLAST will explore the most extreme environments in the universe, and answer questions about supermassive black hole systems, pulsars and the origin of cosmic rays. It also will study the mystery of powerful explosions known as gamma-ray bursts.

Inside is the control center for the X-band radar installed on the deck of the ship. The radar will provide critical support during launch of space shuttle Atlantis on the STS-125 mission. The radar will work with smaller X-band radars placed on the solid rocket booster retrieval ship Liberty Star to provide extremely high-resolution images of any debris that might be created during Atlantis' launch.
