Nicolas de Condorcet (Marie-Jean-Antoine Nicolas de Caritat) (1743-1794). Marquis of Condorcet. French philosopher and mathematician. During the French Revolution he sided with the Girondins. In 1791 was elected representative of Paris in the Legislative Assembly. Sentenced for treason, he was arrested after five months in hiding in Paris in the house of Madame Vernet.
