The New War Medals -- It is announced that H.M. The King approved the designs for the War Medal. 1939-45 and the King's Medal for Service in the Cause of Freedom. The two medals will be struck at the Royal Mint, and then manufactured at Royal Ordnance Factories. The King's Medal is in curpo-nickel alloy, the obverse bears the Royal Effigy, Crowned, and the reverse, designed and modelled Mr. E. Garter Preston, shows a lion standing triumphant on the body of a double -heads dragon (left and centre). On the right is the King's Medal, designed by Mr. T.H. Paget, and shows a knight in armour fresh from the heat of combat, and with his lance broken, receiving refreshment from allegorical female. January 13, 1948.
