The firm owned the first steam sugar refinery on the Lijnbaansgracht in Amsterdam. On 8 January 1834 they were caught using a balance with an extended arm. In the centre the false balance hanging from the clouds of steam coming from the factory 'De Vijf Gebroeders' and on which crates of sugar are weighed. On the left C. de Bruyn with his two sons.
