Mother Makes Ship ModelsLife hasn't been smooth sailing for Mrs. Clara Marchant, 54, mother of 10 living children, four of which are married. She supports the remaining six children by carving and selling ship models. She makes authentic copies of clipper ships and sells them to tourists passing her stand in the little village of East Sandwich, Mass. Her father-in-law, Captain Nathaniel Marchant, who commanded sailing vessels for 28 years, taught Mrs. Marchant her craft. She produces about 500 ships during the winter models, fully rigged and from one inch to six feet long, sell from $1.00 up. September 13, 1940. (Photo by Acme).
