The instrument gives out a series of clicks when radio-activity is encountered and thus enables the rescue party to find their way through the infected area.A demonstration was given at Winchester, Hampshire, by a party of experts from H.M.S. "Phoenix" showing the various safety devices designed to protect the public and members of the Civil defense under conditions in which radioactivity is likely to be present. February 20, 1950.
