Middle East Soldiers Cast Their Votes These Gunners are having a last look through their voting papers before going into the booth to cast their votes. Though many soldiers cast their votes by proxy in their own constituencies, thousands availed themselves of the facilities provided for them to mark their own voting papers. Polling booths were set up in camps throughout the Middle East and partitioned in absolute secrecy just as they would were they in England. The following pictures were taken at the Middle East Base depot of the Royal Artillery, near Cairo, where facilities were typical of the many camps in the Middle East. July 13, 1945.
