Mauve stinger jellyfish (Pelagia noctiluca) on the Lavezzi islands in southern Corsica. Thousands of dying individuals form furrows on the seabed of a cove in the Lavezzi Islands - this is a stinging jellyfish whose sting causes bathers a burning sensation, itching, relatively serious skin lesions and allergies that can lead to anaphylactic shock. This species of pelagic jellyfish is widely found in warm, temperate waters such as the Mediterranean, the Red Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
