Mary Surratt was convicted for her involvement in the conspiracy to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln in 1865. She was the first woman to be executed by the United States federal government and was hung on the 7th July 1865. Mary was the mother of John Surratt who was tried but not convicted for this involvement in the assassination of the president. Date: 1823-1865
