U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Joseph Paschall Jr., a native of Madison, Alabama, and team leader assigned to the Maritime Special Purpose Force (MSPF), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), prepares for special patrol insertion and extraction (SPIE) training on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Sept. 29, 2022. SPIE enhances Marines ability to maneuver through arduous environments, granting the Marine Air-Ground Task Force commander flexibility when inserting or extracting from complex terrain. MSPF is preparing for a scheduled deployment as part of the 26th MEU. As part of the Maritime Special Purpose Force, it's important that we are able to access difficult terrain in order to provide the MAGTF commander with the information necessary to employ troops on the ground, said Paschall. Training like this ensures we are prepared to operate in a multitude of environments.
