Marconi's New Ultra Short Wave Radio -- A side view of Marcon's first ultra short wave wireless telephone station installed on the roof of the Vatican Radio station. A duplicate installation is at Castel Gandolfo, 20 miles S.E., the Pope's summer residence. The installation uses a 57 centimeter wave and the total electrical consumption is about 30 watts, making apparatus and operation infinitely cheaper than other standard radio transmission. In the metal box on the platform are several small parts of the sending and receiving. December 9, 1932. (Photo by Associated Press Photo).
