The Spanish scientific commission observing the passage of Venus through the solar disk, on 6 December 1882, under the presidency of the director of Royal Institute and Observatory of the Spanish Navy (Real Instituto y Observatorio de la Armada de San Fernando, Spain), Mr. Cecilio Pujazon (1833-1891). A provisional observatory was installed in the courtyard of the military hospital, at the Plaza del Fuerte, by the sea.
