For The Many -- Both sides of the new Defense Medal, now being made by the Royal Mint in London. In London, the Royal Mint has begun work on the Defence Medal, which is being made of cupro-nickel. On one side is the King's head; on the other, the Imperial crown over an oak tree, defended by a lion and lioness, with the inscription "1939-1945. The Defence Medal". It is awarded to nearly all Servicemen, the Home Guard and Civil Defence workers. August 7, 1947. (Photo by Fox).
