Manuelito was a War Chief during the Navajo Wars of 1860-1868. Navajos were deported from their ancestral lands and forced in the 'The Long Walk' of 1864, to an arid reservation, Bosque Redondo, in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. In 1868, Manuelito and other Navajo leaders went to Washington, to conclude the Treaty of Bosque Redondo, that returned Navajos to their traditional homeland in Arizona Territory (BSLOC_2019_9_127)
