Major (later Lieut.Col) Edwin Hautenville Richardson with one of his trained ambulance dogs, a bloodhound, in the trenches at Melilla, Morocco during fighting between Spanish forces and local Riffian tribesmen. Richardson offered the dog to Queen Ena of Spain but during his visit was able to observe how the Riffians dressed up dogs in turbans and clothes to trick the Spanish. Date: 1909
