London Housewife 1946 -- "Pure Dried Whole Eggs... from the United States of America". One packet is equivalent to twelve whole eggs -- that is, as many as the housewife can hope to get in twelve weeks, and will get in 24 weeks. This explains the tremendous storm of protest which arose from all over the country when Sir Ben Smith, Minister of Food, announced without warning or explanation that dried eggs would no longer be available on the ration.
