The work was bound for De Launay, whose coat of arms it bears. Governor of the Bastille (1776-1789), De Launay was massacred by the populace during the storming of the prison at the beginning of the French Revolution.Title, alternate capital letters and page rulings are rubricated. Binding is of the period, in red morocco with gilding on the covers and spine. The book block has gilt edges.
