12/31/1932. The lighthouse. The Melilla Lighthouse is built on the watchtower of the bastion that was used in the mid-19th century to mark the anchorage of the Ensenada de Melilla. It was originally a 6th order Lighthouse with an oil lamp and Rotating Screens. Later it was electrified and in 1983 new electric lighting equipment with a gas reserve was installed that took advantage of the optics of the old 1918 Lighthouse.
