The Queen wore a new hat for the occasion.The King and Queen today toured the site for next year's Festival of Britain on the south bank of the river Thames.Walking amid scaffolding and through the mud caused by heavy rain they watched buildings taking shape for the exhibition which will attract visitors from all over the world. The site, which was formerly a derelict area with a few factories and wharves, will rise from the mud alongside the Thames as a grand showplace for Britain. June 30, 1950.
