The King and Queen Visit The East End of London. H.M.The Queen, watched by the King, autographs the spade with which she had planted a Maple tree in the grounds of a new School on the site.Their Majesties the King and Queen were given a great welcome when they visited the London County Council reconstruction scheme at Lansbury, Poplar, east London. The scheme covers about 124 acres most of which were destroyed by enemy bombing during the war. Model flats, houses and shops will occupy the site while part has been reserved for Exhibitions of Architecture for the 1951 Festival of Britain. November 9, 1950.
