Kaftan second half 17th-early 18th century The back of this fragmentary silk robe, or kaftan, features a design of large gold palmettes and curving serrated saz leaves on a white ground. The design is dotted with carnations and small blossoms typical of the floral style popular in the seventeenth-century Ottoman court. The main panel is almost the full width of the loom on which the textile was made. Kaftans like this would likely have been given as gifts to courtiers and other dignitaries.. Kaftan 454043
