Date: mid-18th century.Like blossoms and bamboo, grapes and grapevines were popular subjects in Joseon ceramics and ink paintings. On this rotund jar, the vines and large leaves are painted in copper red--a pigment more difficult to manipulate than cobalt blue or iron brown. Vessels with similar shapes and copper-red designs were made during the eighteenth century at kilns not linked to the court porcelain manufacturing center (Bunwon).
