(280.7 x 175.3 cm).Botticini practiced an eclectic style, influenced successively by Verrocchio and Botticelli. In the present painting the two angels drawing back the curtains depend from those in the altarpiece painted by Botticelli in 1483 for San Barnaba in Florence and now in the Uffizi. Date: ca. 1479.Davide Ghirlandaio painted these three enchanting scenes about 1479 for the base (predella) of an important altarpiece commissioned from his brother, Domenico, for the church of San Giusto alle Mura outside Florence. Two further scenes are known; the main panel is in the Uffizi in Florence.According to legend, at the burial of Saint Zenobius a dead tree sprang to life when it was touched by the saint's bier. The baptistery and campanile of the cathedral of Florence provide the setting. Florence appears in the background of the scene where Tobias catches a fish whose innards will heal his father's blindness. Museum: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.

The Nativity Francesco di Giorgio Martini Italian Francesco di Giorgio was an outstanding architect, sculptor, painter, and theorist. Curiously, his fanciful paintings often show a disregard for perspective and anatomy and this has led to much discussion about his use of assistants. The upper part of this engaging composition is very inventive and was inspired by the sculptural reliefs of Donatello, while the lower part reflects Francesco's admiration for the work of the north Italian miniaturist Girolamo da Cremona, who worked on choirbooks in Siena from 1470 to 1474. So different in character are the upper and lower parts that they were separated in the nineteenth century; they were rejoined in 1988.. The Nativity.
