Irrigation Works-Cyprus -- Almost nearing completion. Men and women working on the weir which when completed will control the torrents that rush down the river and feed the canal safely.Because of the physical features of the country it is necessary to irrigate all land used for cultivation in Cyprus. Tanks are built all over the lowlands, some of then dating back to the Turkish occupation. These tanks are filled by the summer rains in the hills and the water carried by conduits and used for winter irrigation. September 14, 1951. (Photo by British Official Photograph).
