Ink Pot, c. 1425-1450. Northern Italy, 15th century. Leather; overall: 12.1 cm (4 3/4 in.). Intended for use on the writing table, this ink pot was used with a dip pen or quill. It may have belonged to a professional scribe or scholar, or perhaps to a wealthy layperson. The leather is embellished by tooling, embossing (pressing), and punching.
