An ingenious, though perhaps rather complicated device to catch clams through ice in the frozen north, part of a series of drawings in the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News entitled, Very Patent Aides to Sport. A piece of toast tempts an underwater clam, who, the moment it attempts to take a bite will have triggered a string, which sounds a bell which in turn alerts the hunter to cut another string and send a spear diving down to kill its prey. Date: 1928
