The House Of Representatives Electoral Rules, 1953"When a poll has been ordered to be taken... the Returning Officer shall proceed to allot a design in colour... or a symbol to each candidate whose name appears in the final list of valid nominations...."... he shall thereafter publish a notice specifying... the full name... of every candidate... as also the particular colour symbol... allotted...."A copy of the final list shall be prominently displayed... outside the polling station.... The colour or symbol allotted to each candidate shall be prominently shown in such copies."Colours and Symbols The Commission has also decided that only four colours will be used for ballot papers in the following order: (1) Red, (2) Black, (3) Yellow, and (4) Green. It is expected that in the vast majority of cases, there will not be more than 4 candidates in a constituency.
