Home for Christmas - a real Santa Claus at the door. Many surprise visits home characterised the Christmas of 1915. Owing to late arrivals and closed post offices men were not able to let their families know of their impending return. Here, a soldier wearing a greatcoat and goatskin tunic is greeted by his delighted wife and son. The little boy looks to be shouting at the rest of the family to come and see who has arrived at the door. Date: 1916
