In 1874, Joaquim Folch i Solà and Frederic Albiñana i Vila, founded the company Folch, Albiñana y Cía. for the cereal trade. Both partners visited the main European factories to establish an alcohol distillery in Barcelona, building it at the Passeig del Cementiri (now Doctor Aiguader street). The machinery was of German origin, being installed under the direction of the engineer M.P. Kyll, from Cologne (Germany). It was inaugurated in 1883. There was a malting plant, with warehouses that could store up to one and a half million kilos of corn and barley, a building for the brewing and saccharification process, fermentation cellars and a building for distillation.
