G. C. For Heroine Tortured And Shot By Gestapo -- Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Bushell, parents of Mrs. Violette Szabo, G.C., pictured with Tania, 4-year-old daughter of the dead heroine.The George Cross has been awarded Mrs. Violette Szabo, 24-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Bushell, of Brizton, who was parachuted into France to carry to the Maquis vital information about the Allies invasion plan, and atrociously tortured and then killed by the Nazis. They captured her after a gun-fight in which she killed or wounded several members of the Gestapo. December 17, 1946.
