Here a doctor takes the pulse of one of three patients in the same bed. A man and woman look on with worry and fear. Hunger and disease were the backdrop to the outbreak of fever. These miserable conditions were brought on by the potato famine in the mid 19th century and further compounded by the forced evictions of poverty-stricken peasants from their homes and farms. Date: 24 April 1886
