Guards Brigade Repeat An Epic In English History -- Scots Guards entering he boats for the "invasion".The invasion of England by the Vikings was repeated by 4th Infantry Brigade of Guards (who have just been relieved from guarding Buckingham Palace) at the spot where the Vikings first set foot on British soil. This episode was part of the Brigade training of the Guards, and boats weighing 1,0001bs each were carried for a mile across the Mersea Island, and launched. The attack was made from Mersea Island, and the objective was Colchester. Curiously enough, the exact spot on the mainland where the Scots Guards landed was the spot where the first Vikings did the same many hundreds of years age. August 28, 1934. (Photo by Keystone).
