The great disaster at a ship launch on the Clyde : sinking of the Daphne, with two hundred men. The Daphne, a steamer with the Glasgow and Londonderry Steam Packet Company, was launched on the River Clyde in Scotland with 200 men and boys ready to start work as soon as the ship was made fast. The ship almost immediately capsized, not helped by the number on board and the weight of 30 tons of loose gear shifting to port. 124 lost their lives. Date: 1883
