Hiroshige includes Kyoto women, both Oharame, women from the nearby town of Ohara, who carry goods on their heads to sell, and also upper-class ladies veiling their heads with an outer garment called a katsugi. In the background are houses, temples, and villas at the side and foot of Higashiyama and the silhouette of Mount Hiei, an important Buddhist center. This scene is a close-up view of the Great Sanjō Bridge, while the print from the Hōeido series shows the entire bridge in the distance..
