Block with cartouche of Alexander the Great or his son Alexander IV of Macedon. Dimensions: H. 17.5 cm (6 7/8 in.); W. 10.6 cm (4 3/16 in.); D. 4.6 cm (1 13/16 in.). Date: 332-323 B.C..The preserved cartouche gives the name of Alexander, although omitting one of the usual signs. This should be Alexander the Great, who conquered Egypt in 332 BC and died in 323 BC, or just possibly his son by Roxanne Alexander IV of Macedon who ruled Egypt in absentia from 316-306 BC.To the left of the cartouche may be seen the remains of the king's first cartouche. Below the heads of two uraei crowned with disks may just be seen, possibly referring to two goddesses and part of an epithet of the king. Museum: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.

Queen Offering to the Aten ca. 1345-1335 B.C. New Kingdom, Amarna Period This limestone block is from a monumental temple scene representing the king and queen makinig an offering to Aten. The face, usually identified as Akhenaten, actully depicts an Amarna queen, probably Nefertiti, following her husband. The king's shoulder is just visible at the left side of the block. Nefertiti wears the royal "afnet" headcloth with a uraeus cobra at the forehead. Two of Aten's hands hold an ankh to her nose and mouth. The hand at the end of a third ray is turned upward to touch the divine cobra on the queen's forehead. This reversal of the hand position is unusual but not unprecedented, and adds an element of artistic tension to the composition. The relief has been carved in the restrained style that came into use in about the eights year of Akhenaten's reign, shortly after the capital was moved to Tell el-Amarna (Akhetaten). Part of a bronze statue base inscribed in Egyptian and Greek 6th century BC Late Period This broken or partial base is inscribed with both an Egyptian dedication phrase and with a Greek dedication.The front of the base bears a scene of Amun and Mut opposite a man holding a cone shaped object. On rectangles in either upper corner are the Egyptian phrases "Amun give." And along one adjacent side is the phrase "Amun give life (to) Ber son of .... The father's name appears to have been removed. Below the hieroglyphs and on other surfaces is a Greek phrase "Melanthios consecrated me to Theban Zeus (i.e. Amon) as a gift." It seems the individual making the dedication had both an Egyptian and a Greek name, although there are other possibilities..
