First of an entirely new type of infants' iron lung to be used in NSW has been installed at Crown Street Women's Hospital. By using this new apparatus doctors hope to save many premature babies whose lungs have not expanded sufficiently to keep them alive. Invented by Dr. McIntyre and Mr. Ian Waterworth, of Hobart, this type of iron lung has been operating successfully in Tasmanian hospitals for some time. It is manufactured in Australia for £95.
