Engraving of Sir John Hawkins (1532-1595); Elizabethan seafarer, shipbuilder, MP, Treasurer of the Navy. In 1588 he was Rear-Admiral of the English fleet and Captain of the 'Victory' in action against the Spanish Armada. He died, aged 63, on passage to South America to attack the Spanish Treasure Fleet. Date: 1888
