Engraving of the Roman Rocks lighthouse at Simon's Bay, Cape of Good Hope, March 1869. This iron lighthouse was built in 1860, but showed signs of structural failure shortly thereafter. A proposal to encase the lower part in a massive granite wall was agreed, with work taking place between 1864 and 1869. The lighthouse is pictured when the work was completed. Date: 1869
