The Emperor Arrives At The Palace -- Emperor Haile Selassie waves to the crowds as he drives into the forecourt of Buckingham Palace with the Queen. The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal Family were at Victoria Station, London, this afternoon (Thursday) to welcome the Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia on his arrival for a three-day State Visit. The Emperor, who is accompanied by his son, the Duke of Harae, travelled from Malta in the Royal Navy cruiser HMS Cambia and was met at Portsmouth by the Duke of Gloucester, who accompanied him to London. During his State visit he is staying at Buckingham Palace as the guest of the Queen and will afterwards go to his English home at Bath before visiting Bristol, Oxford and several towns.
