Three lenses look out through an hour-glass-shaped opening in the front of the Cinerama camera. Each lens covers, about one-third of the camera's 145-degree angles of "vision". A single shutter rotates in front of the lenses at the point where their lines of view cross. A sound-absorbing box, en-casting the camera, muffles the noise of the mechanism. March 17, 1953. Clearly visible at the far end of the tunnel, past the model being tested, is air-screw which according to the original caption'develops air speeds up to 60 miles per hour'. The original caption also states that 'moments about three different axes are measured by means of the aero-dynamic balance located behind the metal plates seen on the extreme right and left of this picture'.
