An elder of the Karo tribe, a small Omotic tribe related to the Hamar, who live along the banks of the Omo River in southwestern Ethiopia. He is sitting on a small wooden stool which doubles up as a headrest at night. Most adult males carry rifles both as a status symbol and to defend against raids from other tribes.
