The Germans dismissed him after one day. In 1941 he was arrested, deported to Germany in 1942, returned to Norway in 1944 and held in Gestapo headquarters in Oslo as hostage against British mosquito raids. He was liberated by home forces on May 7, 1945. resumed duties as Mayor Oslo a few days later, then was elected chairman of the labor party and is now prime minister. July 07, 1946.
