Early Bust of Lincoln -- For five dollars this bust of Abraham Lincoln, reported to be the first for which the President sat, was bought by Henry C. Roberts (right) in a salvation army storeroom. The sculptor was Leonard W. Volk, whose life mask of Lincoln is in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington. The mask aided the sculptor in fashioning the bust, which was completed in 1860. Mr. Roberts made his purchase about 20 years ago. July 29, 1947. (Photo by Wide World Photos).
