The plaster cast pictured here shows the approved design for the obverse of the Coronation Commemorative Crown Piece to be issued in 1953. The design, by Mr. Gilbert Ladward, R.A., is a three-quarter view equestrian effigy of her Majesty the Queen in the uniform of Colonel-in-Chief, the Grenadier Guards. The piece will be struck in cupronickel, and will be issued to the public through the Banks at a charge of 5s64., exclusive of postage and registration. December 18, 1952. (Photo by Reuterphoto).
