Monte della Vernia was the retreat of Saint Francis of Assisi where in 1224 he stayed for forty days meditating and fasting. It was at Monte della Vernia where he had the vision of an angel carrying the crucified Christ, which led to his experiencing the stigmata. Bound in vellum with the title 'Monte di Vernia' inked on this spine, the book contains 26 prints with letterpress descriptions after designs by Jacopo Ligozzi, who according to Fra Lino Moroni, visited Monte della Vernia with him in 1607. The etchings are by Raffaello Schiaminossi and the engravings are by Domenico Falcini.
