Dana octopus squid (Taningia danae), detail of the large hooked suckers on the arms of this deep sea species that lacks the two extendable tentacles of most squid. This young specimen (length 1 m) was trawled in 700 m. Reaches a total length of 2.3 m. Uses flashes of bioluminescence to confuse potential prey and possibly also to light the scene of capture.
