Current Picture in South Africa (Eighth of Nine) - The Canadian Northwest Mounted Police have their horses, and the South African mounted police have their camels so that they can patrol the Kalahari Desert Region. A typical unit is this one made up of a white officer, a native constable and a pack camel. Note that only the white man carries a gun. Even during the war, the natives in the army did not carry firearms. Their duties were limited to non-combatant varieties. January 14, 1955. (Photo by United Press).
