Cup of Zwartsluis.On the occasion of the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678, Hendrik Bentinck, Lord of Diepenheim, presented this cup to Zwartsluis, a fortified town under his jurisdiction. How it was to be used is indicated in the inscription on the cup, which translates as: Serving Zwartsluis is this work of art, kept in the Town Hall with its honour at heart; a cup from which there to drink wine, when to make merry is both deserved and fine.’
