Culver City, California: July 7, 1946 Howard Hughes sits in the cockpit of his new XF-11 plane, built in conjunction with the Army Air Material Command. It crashed on its flight, and Hughes was taken to a hospital with 3rd degree burns. It is reportedly one of the world's fastest planes and can attain speeds of over 400 mile per hour.
